Manager, Electrical Engineering

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Ensuring that the Electrical Engineering team provides accurate work, on time and on budget, to clients and projects;
  • Sign off for all K2M Electrical Engineering work globally;
  • Developing (with the Div. Dir.) a strategic plan to manage the growth of global K2M Electrical Engineering skills;
  • Managing a continuous improvement process for Electrical Engineering and being responsible for the technical capabilities of the electrical engineers within K2M on a global scale;
  • Providing client technical advice and support;
  • Cooperating with team members who are based in other countries;
  • Training, coaching and general line management of a specialist team; tasks, utilisation, quality, client focus;
  • Resource management within an expanding team and expanding work load, with numerous active projects at any one time;
  • Communication and coordination with other engineering and non-engineering team leaders;
  • Enabling knowledge management and continuous learning within the engineering team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Electrical Engineering degree at master level (or above);
  • 10+ years of HV Electrical experience, including power plant, grid connection, earthing, protection, switchgear, power-electronics, power systems design;
  • Current and demonstrable electrical design calculation and specification capabilities;
  • 5+ years of experience from the renewable (wind and/or solar) industry;
  • As a person you are pro-active and structured with strong analytical skills and a quality-oriented approach to your tasks;
  • An eye for details while at the same time also the ability to keep the overview of your tasks;
  • An open-minded and cooperative personality always keeping in mind what is best for K2M as a whole;
  • A clear understanding and desire to work in the exciting, fast paced variable world of consultancy;
  • Diplomatic skills and honesty are requirements in a multi-cultural organization with high ethical standards;
  • Excellent written English and ability to explain technical issues to non-engineers, including Clients.

Desirable Criteria:

  • 10+ years in wind energy industry;
  • Experience of working in engineering consultancy;
  • Knowledge of specialist skills for example:
  • Switchgear, cables, lines, transformers and reactive compensation equipment at voltage levels up to 400kV;
  • Grid code technical requirements and associated industry technical specifications including codes, agreements, charging methodologies and costs;
  • Submarine cable and HVDC systems;
  • Power systems analysis packages such as IPSA, Digsilent or PSSE;
  • Protection equipment requirements associated with transmission, distribution and renewable projects;
  • Industry design and construction standards, practices and specifications including system earthing requirements;
  • Plant and equipment FATs and SATs;
  • Hybrid power systems control and battery storage;
  • Experience with power systems transmission infrastructure projects.
