Role Summary:

The Operability manager role demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives, but is most of all centered on leading a technical team to achieve specific operability goals for the Offshore Wind Turbine business. This includes managing complex projects and developing and integrating design rules and processes within the performance and operability domain.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of senior engineers spread across different locations in Europe;
  • Define roles and responsibilities, attract and retain talent, empower and inspire employees;
  • Conduct performance appraisals and promote professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching and counseling;
  • Maintain broad awareness of efforts within group to assure technical quality excellence, timely completion of work and reviews, appropriate use of resources, and responsiveness to customer/program needs;
  • Facilitate communication of technical information between organizations and within team;
  • Ensure company compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented within work group;
  • Defines turbines operation to stay within system constraints such as loads, electrical, noise, and thermal limits;
  • Own and manage day-to-day prototype software operations and validation;
  • Provide innovative solutions to meet aggressive timing, product cost and reliability targets;
  • Drives turbine NPIs through operability and/or controls CDR, PDR, & DDR;
  • Collaborates with Loads and validation teams in analyzing measurement data from prototype campaigns supporting internal validation and type certifications.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Project leadership experience in engineering-technology;
  • Experience with advanced control concepts and software engineering control tools ( Matlab, Simulink);
  • Master’s degree from an accredited university (e.g. Mechanical or Electrical engineering) or equivalent knowledge or experience;
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-functional and global environment;
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills;
  • Result orientated with excellent planning and documentation skills;
  • EU Work Permit.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Post-graduate engineering degree (e.g. mechanical or electrical engineering) or equivalent knowledge or experience;
  • Experience in wind turbine control technologies, operability & validation;
  • Expert knowledge on wind turbine component and system design;
  • Able to work well with global teams;
  • Shows ability to effectively prioritize delegate work;
  • Proactively identifies and removes project obstacles or barriers on behalf of the team;
  • Shares knowledge, power, and credit, establishing trust, credibility, and goodwill.
