Define, develop and implement a number of power system operational projects;
Projects may include the following:
Power system studies and analysis;
Power system operational tool development and implementation;
Power system operational policy, procedure, protocol development and implementation.
Preparation of written technical and progress reports for internal and external stakeholders;
Preparation and delivery of presentations to internal and external stakeholders;
In executing the role, the senior engineer will be required to:
Collaborate with and assist the innovation team in achieving its objectives across the programmes of Innovation, DS3 and EU-Syflex;
Liaise with programme stakeholders, both internally and externally to gain a full understanding of stakeholder requirement. In delivering stakeholder requirements the role holder must have the capacity to manage expectations and clearly explain rationale and justification for course of action;
Assist in the development of system operation policy, procedures and protocols to facilitate programme objectives;
Review and update internal system operation policy, procedures and protocols to ensure best practice is followed and maintained;
Deliver projects and tasks in line with expected quality and timeframe;
Stay up to date with national and international developments to ensure EirGrid Group maintains its position at the cutting edge of system operation and renewable integration;
Manage own performance through skills development, delivering on targets and seeking opportunities to learn and develop;
Demonstrate technical and personal leadership in field of expertise;
Continuously look to improve how we work and to be more effective in executing our role within the EirGrid Group;
Be capable of translating technical subject matter for non-technical audiences.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Engineering degree or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years’ experience;
Good technical skills and knowledge of electrical power systems;
Experience of carrying out power system analysis, studies and/or working with power system analysis tools;
Ability to work in a collaborative manner as part of a team;
Possess excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills;
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities;
The ability to make decisions and recommendations in a changing and dynamic environment;
Ability to lead and take responsibility for small/medium projects;
A dynamic and flexible work ethic.
Good technical knowledge of electrical power systems;
Power system study and analysis experience including:
Steady state load flow, voltage and short circuit analysis;
Transient and dynamic voltage and frequency stability;
Electromagnetic transients analysis;
Power system economic analysis (dispatch, losses and lifetime cost analysis).
Experience of working with tools such as:
PSS/E, Matlab, Power Factory, Plexos, Alternative Transient Program (ATP), Powertech DSA (TSAT and VSAT).
Appreciation of energy policy objectives and legislation at a National and Europe level;
Knowledge of national and European energy policy, market design and regulation driving the evolution of the industry;
Appreciation of technology evolution which could bring transformational disruption to the industry;
Experience of working within a similar environment.
