ITER - International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor



  • To carry out the design and development of maintenance equipment and tooling, including Remote Handling equipment and tooling, required for the inspection and/or maintenance of ITER Systems, Structures and Components (SSCs), both at their operational locations within the ITER plant and within the ITER Hot Cell Facility;
  • To contribute to R&D and procurement programs through the preparation of specifications and project follow-up;
  • To ensure proper integration of inspection and maintenance systems within the ITER facilities.

Please note that an organizational restructuring is planned in accordance with the needs of the organization and the evolution of the project phases. In this context, the unit of assignment of the present position may be updated in late 2019, early 2020.

Main duties/Responsibilities

  • Identifies functions and requirements for Remote Handling and Hot Cell equipment required to maintain ITER SCCs;
  • Executes Remote Handling and Hot Cell equipment design activities needed prior to and following placement of procurement contracts;
  • Ensures the integration of Remote Handling and Hot Cell equipment within the ITER facilities;
  • Develops interfaces between the ITER maintenance systems and the concerned systems of the ITER plant to ensure their maintainability;
  • Supports the licensing activities for ITER maintenance systems in close collaboration with the Safety Department;
  • Establishes and updates the required documentation for controlling the design, interfaces, procurement, assembly, commissioning and operation of ITER maintenance systems;
  • May be required to work outside normal working hours, including nights, weekends and public holidays;
  • Implements the technical control of the Protection Important Activities, as well as their propagation to the entire supply chain;
  • May be requested to be part of any of the project/construction teams and to perform other duties in support of the project schedule.

Measures of effectiveness

  • Completes the design activities, managing properly interfaces, in a timely manner and within the defined cost;
  • Follows-up efficiently contracts for the defined scope of activities;
  • Enhances the system performance or reduces the system costs while maintaining technical and safety requirements;
  • Provides efficient and timely support for all above described documentation related to the Remote Handling and Radioactive Materials Division activities.

Level of study

  • Master or equivalent degree


  • Mechanical or Nuclear engineering or other

Level of experience

  • At least 5 years

Technical experience/knowledge

  • At least 5 years of experience as engineer in the field of nuclear, mechanical engineering, process, remote handling, or radwaste;
  • Experience in the integration and procurement of large and complex systems and facilities;
  • Experience within an international environment is considered as an advantage;
  • Good working experience in complex and multidisciplinary projects.
  • Extensive experience in similar jobs (involving similar work responsibilities) and/or additional training certificates in relevant domains may be considered a reasonable substitute for the required educational degree

  • Knowledge of MS Office standard (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) is required;
  • Design experience with CATIA and/or AVEVA is highly desirable.
