Job Description

This role is in the Transmission Projects Team where the successful candidate will perform engineering and project management assignments required to meet key departmental objectives including the planning and delivery of new electricity infrastructure.

Main Responsibilities

  • Primarily responsible for managing a diverse range of technical projects through the public planning process in order to achieve planning consent. Projects include both the redevelopment of existing high voltage assets (substations and overhead lines) and the development of new high voltage projects.
  • Producing high quality internal written reports, papers and presentations to strict deadlines in order to achieve internal project approvals.
  • Taking ownership of project delivery from pre-Capital Approval (project initiation) through to energisation and completion (project close). Assist in determining project objectives, project charter and scope.
  • The role will require project delivery and stakeholder engagement in accordance with the Infrastructure Agreement with ESB Networks.
  • Preparation of tender enquiry documentation for procurement of external Consultants to undertake projects including feasibility studies, preparation of planning applications for submission to both Local Authorities and An Bord Pleanála.
  • Assisting with the assessment of Consultant tender submissions.
  • Managing stakeholder interface including progress meetings, reporting, relationship management, coordination and general communication.
  • Using established project management techniques, coordinating a wide range of activities and inputs from other professionals including technical & engineering, environmental management, communications, public & stakeholder relations, vendor management, finance and procurement. Considered judgement based on analytical thought required. Problems may require an innovative approach.
  • Working to agreed targets and objectives contributing to the regulated targets of the organisation, meeting stakeholder needs and/or satisfying company requirements.
  • Working with other members of the team and other departments, including the Programme Management Office, to ensure that project controls are in order having regard to budgets, schedule, quality, risk and activity monitoring and providing regular up to date and accurate reports on projects. Projects will be delivered to agreed timelines and budgets.
  • Implementation of the new Grid Development Framework requirements within the suite of projects assigned.
  • Manage, review and co-ordinate the work of external consultants for projects.
  • Identifying, evaluating and developing possible solutions to risks and issues arising on projects and escalating as necessary to senior members of the team and the manager.
  • Making decisions impacting the Grid Development and Interconnection Function within the objectives and strategy guidelines of the organisation.
  • Making relevant decisions outside of established procedures but within a policy framework.
  • Providing support and direction to more junior project team members.
  • Facilitating review, assessment and auditing by internal and external parties and putting in place remedial or improvements measures as may be deemed necessary.

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • 4 years post qualification experience.
  • Good technical skills and knowledge & developed project management skills.
  • Ability to lead and take responsibility for small/medium projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & strong analytical and problem solving ability.
  • Motivation, enthusiasm and ability to understand and influence, where necessary, stakeholder requirements.
  • Full drivers license.
  • Strong communication skills with an emphasis on high quality report writing and ability to communicate technical issues clearly and effectively.
