Vattenfall is now looking for the right person to fill the position as Head of Commercial within Business Area Heat in the UK.

You will become a key member of the Energy Solutions, Heat UK leadership team. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for the commercial health of the business: spanning strategic planning, commercial propositions, investment and commercial partnerships, contracts, risk strategies and investment modelling.

This business offers low carbon solutions for large scale district heating networks, solar power, electricity infrastructure, e-mobility, storage technologies and digital platforms combining the benefits of both decentralized and centralized energy production to deliver a service fitting the demands of the next generation of infrastructure in the UK. Following successful market entry in 2018 the team is looking to expand it’s leadership team to include a commercially astute, experienced manager to lead the small but critical commercial function in the business and ensure that the team makes excellent business decisions based on strong commercial fundamentals.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Effectively develop and lead the commercial team;
  • Drive the company strategy and planning, managing key stakeholders relationships within the organisation;
  • Lead the assessment and evaluation of investment opportunities, including developing and supporting business cases;
  • Provide support to programs and projects through the project lifecycle from inception through to operations;
  • Create compelling commercial propositions in which client need and Vattenfall requirements and are married;
  • Translate good risk management into a point of difference and competitive advantage;
  • Lead contractual negotiations to support solutions and business development;
  • Work with M&A teams on acquisitions and non-organic growth;
  • Structure partner-finance solutions for customers which provide for balance sheet restrictions of customers and of Vattenfall;
  • Interface on behalf of the MD into business controlling and finance – ensuring strong collaboration and business management.

To be successful, we believe that you have the following experience:

  • Chartered member of a relevant professional body or equivalent experience;
  • Degree educated to at least 2.1 at a reputable University;
  • Extensive successful experience in a senior commercial role in energy or infrastructure;
  • Proven ability to influence at all levels of the organisation and negotiate with external parties;
  • Successful experience of negotiating asset contracts;
  • Proven ability to develop effective business cases and value propositions;
  • Significant previous successful experience in customer and stakeholder relationship management at senior level;
  • Strong commercial focus and financial acumen;
  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Understanding and experience of district heating desirable but not essential.
