You will be accountable for techno-economic studies, primarily power system simulations, to assess and forecast developments in the electricity system. The team undertakes a range of studies including power system planning, electricity demand forecasting, assessing the need for new generation capacity, simulating the operation and costs of running the power system, forecasting levels of transmission congestion, economic assessment of generation portfolio expansion, demand-side management, market design options and interconnection with neighbouring systems, and forecasting and reporting on the impact of technology changes.
The team acts as a centre of expertise for market modelling within EirGrid. We provide specialist modelling services to other business areas such as Network Planning, Access Planning and Operations as well as to external stakeholders such as the regulatory authorities and customers. We are members of ENTSO-E expert teams for pan-European market studies and adequacy assessment.
The successful candidate will have developed technical knowledge working on complex techno-economic studies. You will be capable of working independently and leading specific activities within the team, seeking guidance from senior staff as required. You must be able to produce very high quality work, be a strong team player with excellent verbal, written and influencing skills. You will also contribute to the continuing development of the modelling methods and the team’s skills base.
One of your key responsibilities will be leading the adequacy assessment and Capacity Market process including the development of new methods of adequacy assessment using market modelling approaches.
To be successful in this role, you will need an engineering, science or mathematics degree with 6+ years relevant experience. Strong capabilities are required in market modelling and programming. We need you to provide innovative solutions to complex issues in a timely manner. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, with strong analytical and problem solving abilities. Project management skills along with strong oral and written communications skills will be key.
