Entity and activity description


As Cluster Energy Manager, you are in charge of the energy portfolio resulting from Air Liquide’s LI operations and sales in the NEC Cluster. Your scope includes electricity, natural gas & CO2, and you manage a team of Energy Managers, also located in Brussels. You report directly to the LI-Performance Director. Your main role together with your team is to (i) define the energy sourcing/sales/indexation strategy and implement it, (ii) monitor and optimize the portfolio, and (iii) ensure the governance on the energy portfolio in accordance with the Air Liquide standards and guidelines and local regulations.

You are located in Brussels, with occasional travel to other AL offices in the NW Cluster.

Missions and Responsibilities


Your mission as Cluster Energy Manager can be described as follows:

  • Team management: you will ensure that the Energy Management team is properly staffed and has the appropriate skills to achieve its mission. You will set clear objectives and priorities to the team and manage follow-up and challenge.

ALBI role:

  • Strategy & optimization: you are in the lead for the long-term energy sourcing and supply strategy. You are in charge of optimizing the energy portfolio and validate the short and midterm strategy. You are in charge of securing governance and accountable to seek validation from internal governance bodies when relevant.
  • Regulations & advocacy: you represent or ensure that Air Liquide is represented within different energy workgroups (FEBELIEC, ESSENCIA, etc). You ensure changing regulations are well understood and the impact on Air Liquide’s operations is understood and integrated. If needed, you organize the advocacy efforts to protect AIr Liquide’s interests.
  • Sales ‘indexation’: you are the owner of the sales’ energy ‘indexation’ strategy and work together with Business Developers on its implementation. You are in front line with customers to explain and negotiate indexes used in their contracts/invoices.
  • Administration, contract management and reporting: you ensure your team delivers :
  • reliable and timely index calculations for invoicing
  • accurate monitoring and reporting of the energy exposure
  • ensure proper energy supply contract management is in place
  • answering to auditors, (mandatory) surveys and questions from relevant administrations
  • Energy projects management: you and your team are responsible for energy related projects and are accountable for delivering the ambitions with regards to energy for your scope.
  • Energy tools and digital transformation: you are the business owner of the Energy interface for the invoicing system and energy tools, meaning you ensure your team contributes to the business need definition, scoping, provides feedback on the developments, and validate delivery of such energy tools.

Cluster role:

  • Governance: you secure governance for all cluster geographies and you participate to all ENRISK committees involving the NWE Cluster geographies.
  • Alternative supply / new ways: you provide support to cluster geographies for the development of long-term energy strategic projects (alternative supply, renewables, CO2, Green, …).

Competencies and Profile


The ideal candidate has a relevant experience of at least 5 years in energy sourcing management. She/he has a Master Degree in Business or Engineering with some additional business orientation. The Cluster Energy Manager must work in team, handle data and analyse complex issues to deliver value.

  • Analytical Skills & result-orientated: You will work with a complex and constantly evolving energy market environment. You will need to be able to use data and analytical tools to propose optimisation and decisions.
  • Team player: you will work with multidisciplinary and international team members.
  • Taste for new challenges: challenging the status-quo
  • Communication Skills: You will need to speak to people with multiple backgrounds and seniority level in- and outside the organisation.
  • Flexibility & Agile
  • Willing to take ownership: it is crucial to feel responsible & accountable of his/her deliverables
  • Bilingual: French/Dutch is compulsory, as well as a proficient level of English
