Role Summary:

As an Electrical Design Engineer in the Generator Center of Excellence in GE Renewable Energy Offshore Wind, you will lead and/or undertake tasks related to the electrical generator. The candidate will work with diverse, cross-functional teams to execute detailed design, concept design, trade studies, and select the best designs and solutions against multiple criteria.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical accountability for the generator electromagnetic and electrical areas. Main responsibilities include:
  • Lead and/or undertake electromagnetic calculations and investigations required for the development of permanent magnet generators for wind applications, considering technical, industrial and commercial constraints
  • Lead and/or undertake tasks in the areas of wind generator design (electrical parts): insulation, coils, connections, cooling and monitoring
  • Ownership for electromagnetic and electrical generator topics, which includes definition of requirements and characteristics, technical documentation, interface definition, prototyping, testing, homologation and introduction into manufacturing up to issue resolution in the installed fleet
  • Work closely with the Supplier Quality organization to ensure design CTQs are tested properly, as well as met and maintained in the serial production process
  • Technical support for generator incidences arising from the assembly plants, installation or turbine operation
  • Assess field data to improve operability and reliability of the generator
  • Developing and maintaining calculation tools, methodologies and rules for electrical and electromagnetic design of permanent magnet generators

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Experience in electrical design and calculation of permanent magnet motors/generators for high power applications
  • Significant experience with electromagnetic calculations using FEM software, preferably CEDRAT FLUX -MAXWELL
  • Strong Engineering experience or other related field including relevant experience in large electrical machines and/or transformer engineering role
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Positive mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Analytical approach to problem solving
  • Willingness for international travel
  • EU Work Permit

Desired Characteristics:

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Proven ability to work in a matrix organization with international teams
  • Experience in the Wind sector and knowledge of competitors solutions
  • Experience in industrialisation and manufacturing of permanent magnet motors/generators
